You’re not a pathological liar Someone from your class really jumped to their death From the top of William James Hall one February morning The timeline checks out I wish the Harvard Crimson could be my witness of that night Buying sodas at the 7/11 I hate the end I saw I was full of shit when I was 26 You’re not an ugly crier But I was, so I broke up by text Freeway backseat flier Would you admit you miss the sex? When I was sick at Christmas You took care of me, you said you loved me I hate the end I saw Sorry I invoked Andromeda, sorry I spoke too soon No, I wasn’t out, barely knew myself You’re a painting of the moon I was full of shit cuz I was 26 You got the wife you wanted Got the babe you wanted I got the life I wanted Every day’s a new song Gonna be hard to forget that love Gonna be hard to lose that part of myself Gonna hurt to move on, make a new start Know myself and learn my heart Gonna be hard to get locked out Gonna be hard when you never wanna talk Gonna hurt to move on, make a new start Know myself and learn my heart I know the end I want

Big Mirrors 02:34
Step into my office Big mirrors in the closet In the barysphere Thermal convection Lateral variation Superrotation Now you’re at it again Thinking with your other head Losing your friends What did you expect to happen when you went and listened to your heart? Four flights of stairs Had enough of the glare In the photosphere Big lips are swollen Saturn’s returning Magnetic moment You’re at it again Messing with your closest friends Losing your head What did you expect to happen when you went and listened to it? What did you expect to happen when you went and listened to your heart?

Seeds 03:11
Plant seeds in mind On my birthday Startled enterprise Collecting money Clap hands to mics Put on that record, dummy A crooked hairline smile Are you trying to kill me? Sleep deprived starry eyes Collide, the constellations call Shining in silver lies Don’t ask, don’t tell, just play guitar Bite the Northern Spy I bloom belated Dream about my life Illuminated Lay down the tracks And tell another story Tearing up the reel Sanity is a hook you play Sleep deprived starry eyes Collide, the constellations call Shining in silver lies It’s way too bright to call it a night You’re never what I think If you’re rhythm, I’m the lead Revolving round basement bars Don’t ask, don’t tell, just play guitar Don’t ask, don’t tell, just play guitar Don’t ask, don’t tell, just stay here

Comeback 03:36
Sewing a stitch in my right Retouched and running all night It’s just a twitch of the eye That pent-up visceral fight Living in hours too late Collective consciousness weight Last calls and long-lost restraint In thrall and mouthing all the words You look perfect With your mouth open wide like you came Don’t you know that? You were made for this stage And I wish that I could leave and I could come back So I could be there in the day Comeback, comeback Distortion on my guitar Scattering dust on the floor There’s Francis coming along Blonde hair and coke in the john If Teri’s climbing the pole Downstairs and changing the pulse Then Marfred’s holding us all In thrall with starlight with no words You look perfect With your mouth open wide like you came Don’t you know that? You were made for this stage And I wish that I could leave and I could come back So I could be there in the day Comeback, comeback x3 Catching the rain at Royale In line and shaking the cold Messed up among the unknowns Our Thursday best at the church of Michelle How did it go? Monira said with a joke Well, of course I went home Of course I misspoke Shining the hours to gold Unfolding mirrors in the dark Preserving character arcs In thrall and waiting for the words Comeback, comeback, comeback You look perfect With your mouth open wide like you came Don’t you know that? You were made for this stage And I wish that I could leave and I could come back So I could be there in the day Comeback x11

about

Boston’s “glam punk that you can dance to” rockers Linnea’s Garden live up to their reputation with their third release, Mirrors, out November 17, 2023. The five-track EP takes the songwriting chops of 2021 debut Nowhere Friday Nights and the dark glittering promises of 2022 full-length Fashion Show and then kicks it up a notch. Powered by the new rhythm section of Hands on bass and Super Tough Ray Clough on drums, this recording takes on a new intensity, reckless and riding the rails.

Mirrors opens with a kinetic dose of self-deprecation in lead single “Pathological Liar.” The pop-punk banger begins with an energetic run of power chords that stops for a stuttering five-bar break as singer/songwriter/guitarist Linnea Herzog sings: “You’re not a pathological liar. Someone from your class really jumped to their death from the top of William James Hall one February morning.” It’s all a true story - a retrospective on growing up and taking accountability in relationships. “I was full of shit when I was 26,” Linnea sings with no shame. The music video, a collaboration with Carissa Johnson (Fuel Heart Productions), explores the idea that sometimes the right relationship - and your best life - is hiding in plain sight.

Title track “Big Mirrors” has a 70’s rock feel as the vocals follow a burning guitar riff, while lyrically bouncing between outer space and earth. The chorus soars, begging the question, “What did you expect to happen when you went and listened to your heart?” before dropping into a grunge bridge that crushes.

“DB3” is the third song off the third release of Linnea’s Garden. It’s a groovy danceable tune that touches on the relationship between past, present and future selves and how embracing all three is crucial for evolution. Friendship, love and sex can all be a key part of the transformation when they hold up a new mirror through which to see yourself: “I’m in love with how you think I must be holding on/I’ve improved, there’s no going back to normal.”

“Seeds” starts sparse, opening with a sultry groove. The vocal takes a turn as angular guitars move the melody to “sleep-deprived, starry eyes,” longing and regret evident in the refrain: “Don’t ask, don’t tell, just play guitar.”

“Comeback” recounts the late nights at clubs, the shows that changed your life. The joy of seeing the people you love returning to the stage and getting to be part of that noise. The wonder at how long you could live without it, if you ever went without it. How good it feels to hit as hard as you can and let the guitar bruise you back. There’s no cutoff. You’ve never been too awkward. It never has to end. The music video for “Comeback” (Grrl Haus Cinema 2023 Official Selection) was edited and directed by Natalie Peracchio with cinematography by Tomás Orrego. Peracchio recounts the filmmaking process: “We shot on 16mm and I used a hole puncher to cut circles out of the film, then I mixed them all up and taped it back together. It ended up being one of my favorite techniques that I’ve tried!”

Linnea’s Garden is proud to bring you Mirrors live at their EP release show, November 17 at O’Brien’s Pub in Allston, MA with Lovewhip, CATWOLF and Hyber.
